Dorian Wood has recently released his long-awaited album, Rattle Rattle. You can listen to it or purchase the album here. His new album incorporates over 60 musicians, including a 45-member choir assembled by Dorian himself, The Difficult Women, as well as guitarist Michael Corwin (Correatown), bassist Sebastian Steinberg (Fiona Apple, Soul Coughing), trumpetist Daniel Rosenboom (Josh Groban), violinist Paul Cartwright (Father John Misty) and members of the avant-jazz orchestra Killsonic. Rattle Rattle also features duets with Angela Correa (Correatown, Les Shelleys), Leah Harmon (Petrojvic Blasting Company), Eddika Organista (El Haru Kuroi), and renowned French artist Nina Savary.

Cansadísimos pero muy contentos, Sef y Nathaniel llegan a Madrid después de una semana Bosque adentro y componen una pequeña canción para dar las gracias a todos los que les ayudaron y apoyaron durante la gira.

Exhausted but happy, Sef and Nathaniel arrive at Madrid after a week into the woods and write a small song to thank everyone that has helped and supported them during the tour.

¡Esta noche finalizamos la gira en Huesca! Juan Sebastián Bar a las 23h30, junto a Mopa DJ’s tras su espectáculo Tus hijos me están jodiendo la vida hoy a las 19h en CC Matadero.

Gracias al trabajo de Edu, Berta y nuestro anfitrión Carlos pasamos una noche maravillosa en el Desafindo Café de Zaragoza. Nos enamoramos con los ritmos Life-Aquaticos de su órgano Hammond Piper II (¡oh!). El amable Rubén nos filmó pegando voces en la acera de afuera, dejando sorprendidos a algunos transeúntes y a otros encantados.

El público del Desafinado fue estupendo, con sus dulces voces la noche se tornó caliente y sudorosa. Tras el concierto pasamos por el piano-bar Ragtime, donde una sesión de madrugada tuvo lugar con Carlos cantando numeros Waits-escos sobre las teclas del piano, Nathan poniéndose hardcore a cappella folk y Sef, como siempre, encantándonos con sus historias de pelos.

Thanks to the hard work of Edu, Berta and our host Carlos we had a wonderful night at Desafindo Café in Zaragoza. We fell head-over-heels for the Life-Aquatic Rhythms of their Piper-2 Hammond Organ (swoon!). The lovely Ruben filmed us ‘pegando-voces’ on the street outside, all much to the shock of the passers-by.

The beautiful Desafinado crowd were very warm, sweet singers and the night got hot & sweaty. Later we swung over to Zaragoza’s premier piano-bar “Ragtime” - where a late night session ensued with Carlos crooning Waits-esque numbers over tinkling ivories, Nathan getting hard-core a cappella folk on our arses, and Sef, as ever, charming us with his hairy stories.

Segundo día en la isla con Miquel, Tina y Miquel Àngel llevándonos de aventuras. Concierto familiar número dos en un espacio doméstico y concert íntim nocturno en una casa forrada de cuadros y figuritas asombrosas. ¡Las reservas llevaban agotadas dos días! Subimos a la azotea para rodar unos vídeos de guerrilla con la Catedral de Palma iluminada de fondo.

Second day on the island with Miquel, Tina and Miquel Àngel taking us on adventures. Familiar concert number two in a domestic space and nocturnal concert íntim in a house filled with wonderous portraits and figurines. Reservations had sold out two days ago! We went up to the roof to film some guerrilla videos with the Catedral de Palma lit up in the background.

Cogimos un avión por la mañana y aterrizamos en Palma, Mallorca. ¡La parte insular de la gira! Nuestros impresionantes anfitriones, Cultura a casa (millones de gracias Miquel y Tina), nos llevaron a comer marisco en el puerto y después a un pueblo llamado Llubí donde dimos un concierto familiar para 40 niños igualmente salvajes y adorables.

We caught a plane in the morning and landed in Palma, Mallorca. The insular part of the tour! Our amazing hosts, Cultura a casa (many thanks Miquel and Tina), took us out for seafood in the port and then off to a town called Llubí where we played a familiar concert for 40 kids, equally wild and adorable.

On Sunday evening, AC Mediodía Chica prepared a small forest of their own in the exhibition space as the rainy weather wouldn’t allow for a concert in their patio. Many familiar faces and songs from the past, we felt at home once again. If you live in Madrid, pay attention to their workshops in sculpture, illustration, etc. More info here.

Nuestro primer concierto familiar en la gira Bosque adentro tuvo lugar en Kubik Fabrik (donde Sef dará otro concierto el próximo sábado 27 noche y domingo 28 matinal), y fue todo un éxito con canciones de piratas, bucles, búhos y gatos.

Our first family concert in the Bosque adentro tour took place in Kubik Fabrik (where Sef will play another show next Saturday 27 night and Sunday 28 morning) and was quite a success with songs about pirates, loops, owls and pussycats.

Bosque adentro

Con el otoño llegan las hojas secas, la necesidad de mantas gruesas y el deseo de calentar los aires frescos cantando. Sef & Nathaniel Robin Mann unen sus fuerzas de nuevo para una pequeña gira llamada Bosque adentro (un homenaje al musical de Sondheim y Lapine). Brindaremos siete conciertos en cinco días a través de un puñado de ciudades españolas: Madrid, Llubí, Palma, Zaragoza y Huesca, incluyendo tres conciertos especiales para familias (grandes y pequeños son bienvenidos).

El cartel de la gira es obra de la elegante damisela Ana Bustelo y una edición limitada de 100 impresiones con sello manual podrá adquirirse en nuestros conciertos como souvenir y ayudará a financiar la gira.

With autumn comes dry leaves, the need for thicker blankets and the desire to warm the cooling airs with voice and song. Sef & Nathaniel Robin Mann rejoin forces for a small spanish tour under the name Bosque adentro (Into the woods, a homage to the musical by Sondheim and Lapine). Our friend Dorian Wood will be missed but he continues great solo adventures in Los Angeles! We will play seven concerts in five days through a bunch of Spanish cities: Madrid, Llubí, Palma, Zaragoza and Huesca, including three special concerts for families (small and tall, all are welcome).

The tour poster has been made by elegant damsel Ana Bustelo. A limited edition of 100 prints with hand-stamping will be on sale at our concerts as a souvenir.

“Tres bardos barbudos y bizarros”

Tienen carreras por separado, pero se han unido temporalmente para asombro y regocijo general (no por la reunión, claro, sino por la oferta). Son tres y proceden de Los Ángeles (Dorian Wood), Madrid (Sef) y Londres (Nathaniel Robin Mann). Juntos y revueltos responden por el muy acertado nombre de Beards & Tongues (barbas y lenguas), y el martes, en La Lata de Bombillas, rompiendo las distancias clásicas entre artista y espectador (actuaron entre los asistentes, estos sentados en cojines), en una suerte de chill-out esplendorosamente bizarro. Voces (excelentes, sobre todo las de Dorian y Nathaniel), acordeón, ukelele, tambor y, ocasionalmente, kalimba y guitarra eléctrica minimalistamente amplificadas (además de las percusiones más primitivas como golpear el suelo o el propio cuerpo) son las armas artísticas de estos barbudos con lenguas sueltas.

Su propuesta, que comenzó con un solo de kalimba y continuó a tres voces en un ritual casi monacal, tiene el atractivo de lo heterodoxo, la belleza de lo armado con sentimiento, y el picante de la ironía y el humor. Beards & Tongues son tres folcloristas atípicos, tres trovadores audaces, tres creadores perturbadores. Lo mismo revisan, dándole la vuelta, una pieza del repertorio tradicional mexicano (La llorona), que repasan el catálogo europeo del recopilador Alan Lomax o se sumergen en el cancionero de Las Bahamas. Eso y más: folk inglés e irlandés, melopeas gospel, ecos de Nueva Orleans, cánticos españoles en la mejor línea de Agapito Magazuela, retazos de blues portuario, aires de frontera- La oferta de este trío calavera es de difícil taxonomía, pero justo ahí reside su interés, pues, haciendo suya la máxima menos es más, dinamitan cánones y desdibujan fronteras. Sí, lo suyo entra de lleno en la imprecisión de lo bizarro, pero es una impagable apuesta por lo popular. Parafraseando una vieja canción cubana de exaltación castrista, anotemos también bizarramente: ¡Vivan los barbudos!

June 1. Madrid

The three songsters have now parted ways and returned to their countries and multiple projects… Though separated again in Los Angeles, Madrid and London, we remain filled with joy from the great experience of the tour, and the epic finale in Madrid. Opening and ending collaborations by Lucas Bolaño (ELM) and Mancarro! Over 180 audience members, full house! Queues outside and a standing ovation! Serendipitous lights out on the last verse of the last song! It was great. Here are some more photos by Gustavo Fernández Mirón (Sef’s brother). We’ll keep updating with material as we get them.

Thank you Edu we has a great afternoon busking and night spen sweating-it-up in la Lata de los Bombillas! Off we go on the AVE train to Madrid, home to Sef!
